Operating in the third generation of Macgregor family leadership, Macgregors Meat & Seafood Ltd. recently surpassed its 65th year in business since Peter Macgregor was handed control of the Wickson butcher business in 1949. At that time, it was a fourth generation meat purveying business in the Wickson family, founded in 1834 at the historic St.Lawrence Market in downtown Toronto. Mr. John Wickson, a true gentleman of great character, released the business to his then general manager Peter Macgregor, a Scotsman of the same pedigree who came to Canada as a butcher looking for more opportunity in life. Macgregors is in its seventh generation of Canadian family ownership!
Duncan Macgregor Sr., the second generation leader in the Macgregor family, although officially having retired January of 2011, is often in our midst of daily business. It is through his unwavering attention to the business over the last 50 years, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his ability to pass on and keep Our Core Values at the centre of how Macgregors conducts business and treats our MacPeople, that we continue to exist as a successful Canadian family owned business.
